One of my New Year Resolutions was to use much of my vast fabric collection in quilting projects without buying new fabric. You see, I am a fabricholic, a hoarder of all types of woven fabrics. I currently have 2 closets full along with 2 large dressers jam packed with the stuff. Not all of it is quilting fabrics, there are many synthetics as well. Some in large quantities of yardage. Anyway, today I finally started on my "stash busting".
About 5 years ago, I enrolled in the Dear Jane block of the month from Stitchin Heaven. I have collected 24 packages of neat Ziploc bags with fabrics and instructions (this is a 2 year block of the month project). Unfortunately, I had not made any of the blocks. That is, until today! Today I completed my first block A-1, "pinwheel gone awry". Now I can start the official Dear Jane count...1 block, 28 pieces, no triangles (yet).
One of the things I learned in making this block is that my quarter inch foot does not produce quarter inch seams. My block was just a tad shy of the 5" desired finished dimensions. I will make a few adjustments in my next block strategy and report back my success of lack thereof.
My other New Year's Resolutions involve finishing my many UFOs, the Dear Jane being one of those...or is it a UFO if your have collected the materials, patterns, and instructions, but not began any actual sewing?? Anyway, I have several others that I'll detail here as I journey along.
